Everything about Out of Africa is amazing but the safari inspired style is truly unforgettable. Whenever a certain element of a film really stands out I check to see who was responsible. Directors, composers, editors, and costume designers always overlap for me. I know it sounds strange but I'll see a film even if the trailer looks mediocre if a certain person scored it.
One of these recurring people is the incredibly talented Milena Canonero. She's done the costume design for some of my favorite styled films from The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou to Chariots of Fire. Her touch on a film is undeniable. Film is one of the most collaborative art forms and for one person to be able to put their unique stamp on a department is really inspiring. For me that's a real key to success in whatever field you're in.
You guys seem to really be loving the Test Shots. I thank you so much for that. I'm having a ton of fun hooking up with friends and shooting them. After we film we're like... "I wonder what people are going to say." It's been entertaining reading all the comments (positive, negative, clever, & crude) and creating a dialogue with all of you.
I started the project saying I have two passions in this life... style and film. But to be fair there's really a third and that's music. The reason I direct music videos is because I love music. These Test Shots begin to take form only after I lay down the sound bed. Some of the songs I've chopped up and distorted to make fit the mood. Most of the music you hear is atmospheric but beautiful nonetheless. So I decided to create a soundtrack of all the original tracks and give it away to one of you on a USB mixtape. My way of saying thanks for all the love and support. It means a lot to me.

For me Takeshi's words are exactly what men have and will always want... Timeless style. Anytime I see someone wearing Post it's impossible to tell when it's from. You have to admire that in a brand. There are a few other designers and labels that have been able to accomplish this. I thinks those are the ones we are attracted to time and time again...
Gifts of any kind are good. But a gift you actually love is great. I naively know nothing about these shoes other than they are beautiful and intimidating as fuck. I'm not sure if they're currently available anywhere. You may have not known it but Mark McNairy has had an influence on mine and your style for years. Whether you bought 68 & Brothers or McNairy Brothers at Union or hike uptown to sift through J. Press, McNairy has had his touch in more ways than one.
A big part of this blog is to give shine to the guys that have been influencing fashion for years but are too real and humble to toot their own horn. Bad boys move in silence but I don't mind trumpeting their efforts here. Thanks for the elegant gift Mark, but more importantly thanks for doing what you do...
