Heavy Rotation: The Morning Benders "Big Echo"

Mr. Black does it again with his great musical tastes. This one comes from the band The Morning Benders with their release Big Echo. It kinda sounds like Phil Spector before all the unlawful debauchery. These guys also have some lines, which is always a huge plus in my book... "And I made an excuse. And you found another way to tell the truth. I put no one else above us. We'll still be best friends when all turns to dust." I like that...

There are a handful of individuals through out my life that have really shaped my personal style. My good friend Chris Gibbs is one of those people. A trip to Los Angeles always includes stopping by his groundbreaking and progressive shop Union on La Brea. 

What I love most about Chris' style is the sense of humor, sincerity, and risk he takes. I don't know anyone that does it quite like he can... His style is truly unique and always has some flavor you would never expect, leaving you a bit jealous like... "why didn't I think of that?" His seeds Solomon and Ishmael are definitely following in their daddy's footsteps... Good times fam... Love you guys...

It doesn't get more classic than an M-65 field jacket and Ray-Ban aviators. I really love the oversize lens on Jamie's face... It kinda feels like she grabbed her boyfriend's pair before she left the house. 

What I love most about this look is how soft it is. Essentially you have some really masculine pieces that feel quite feminine on her. Travis Bickle wishes he looked this good...

If only a broken heart could be mended this well... If you remember back in December I posted a three year old pair of blown out A.P.C. New Standards. As with anything that's broken in your life I was a little unsure what to do. You guys said they needed to get repaired. They were just too good to throw away.

So I looked to the comments and decided that Denim Therapy was the place to go. I'm a sucker for clever names. I'm so glad I chose them... The founder Francine Rabinovich is a genius craftsman. She's incredibly nice and was plenty accommodating to my dilemma. I sent them off and a few days later they came back fixed with a kind note. I was absolutely blown away out how amazing they look and how thorough a job was done. Please click on the above photos for a closer look. This is truly an art form. So if you have some damaged goods Denim Therapy is your place to go. Now if there was only a place for this darn broken heart of mine... Sigh...

Supreme Lee Scratch Perry Video & Giveaway

It takes a really special type of genius to create new genres and explore musicianship in undiscovered ways. You really have to march to the beat of your own drum. Lee Scratch Perry is one of those innovators. And my guys at Supreme recognize that. So we made a short film on him. This one was a little bit different than what we usually do. It was really about patchworking all this really fantastic footage into a digestable story. We wanted you to feel what Lee is all about in a couple minutes and hopefully learn a little something about him. I certainly did working on this project.

You might remember J. Wes from this post in December. Well the man is back in NYC. I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted him. It was really good to see him and catch up. I love his style more than ever and tried my best to give him a worthy Test Shot.

Unfortunately or maybe fortunately it's been really painful times this week in my life and I think those emotions found their way into the film. Basically, I tried to make the clothes cry... Apologies for lack of posts but it's been really hard just to turn the computer on. As always thanks so much for stopping by. Arriving and manifesting themselves in their own unique way, different from every other snowflake that falls that day, because each person just like snowflakes have their own experiences, intricacies and beautiful stories. 

Hobo, bohemian, unisex style... Like all things dope it's hard to categorize, compartmentalize, and label that which is truly unique. It's been pretty male dominated in these parts and I think it's time to let the ladies shed some light. When I initially started this series I had to shoot women. But I wanted to make it relatable to me and all of you. So the rules were and will continue to be if I photograph a woman, a man should be able to wear the exact same thing and look just as good.
