Premiere: New Balance Custom US574 Film

 

I've always been fascinated with process... I think it was ever since watching Mister Rogers as a youth. I recently had the opportunity to direct a film for New Balance highlighting its made in the USA customization process for the 574. The result is something between a Wes Anderson directed factory film and A Tribe Called Quest's Midnight Marauders. Super quirky, light, and probably a little off the beaten path of what you'd expect from me.

I have to commend New Balance for being the only athletic company that still produces a portion of their sneakers in America. Special thanks to the incredibly kind people over there especially Erin and Lou. Shout to Sean Sullivan for his still photography on the project, David Feinberg on the cut, and Chris Black for putting it all together. This is how people make sneakers...

wish the color selection was a bit more adventurous. they did a project with the 574 in 97/98 that was sold at union. great suede colors. think they missed the mark on this one.

When I put this boot on it was like putting on a well fitted glove, these are even better than my other MBT. I wear them all the time I am going to order another pair in brown. I love them and would strongly recommend them to anybody.

Uh... No. Wes Anderson, as we've seen in his commercials, would make his work fun, interesting and original. Just because you put quirky music in the background doesn't mean the film is quirky. Maybe you should start focusing on your content more, and not relying on the music. It makes your films stagnant. Experiment for god's sake. Might as well jump out on a limb.
