Supreme Sh*t

SupremePowerCorruptionLiesDeck

Everyone has their own idea of what Supreme means to them. And I think that opinion is based on when they were exposed to it and the context. As it's become more accepted through the years and coveted globally it's almost become a celebrity in itself. For me it will always be a New York thing... I don't care how popular it gets. Its roots still lie in the counter culture that raised me.

Watching it blossom in downtown NYC for the past two decades and being a part of it from time to time has been a really interesting case study in brand management. At the end of the day they make a lot of the clothing I still love to wear and talk about. For this reason I still find it the most relevant clothing line. And Spring/Summer 2013 is no exception... Black with a splash...

It's no secret that sneakers are back in vogue and it's no secret that I love what Nike has been doing as of late. Their teched out running sneakers like Lunaracers, Free Runs, LunarGlides, and Flyknits I especially love. The colors and technology are so refreshing. It's even given me nostalgia for the recent Air Max and Air Huarache reissues. But I'll always have a soft spot for their classic white tennis shoe.

If you're obsessed like I am here's some great eye candy courtesy of Lightning Japan. Enjoy the subtlety of the details and a timeless era that goes with everything...

Run To Work Or Work To Run

SilverSweat
The climate's changing like the weather and maybe that's why I've become inspired by clothing again lately. The biggest trend I've seen this season by far in the streets of SoHo is shorts over running tights for men. It's a really interesting silhouette and a fashion that serves utility. The much bigger story is how athletic wear and traditional menswear now play together in the cold months in NYC.

Sometimes I'll go for a run in the morning and not have time to change before my first meeting or shoot. I love the way these pieces can interact with each other in an active lifestyle. Whether it's using a towel as a scarf or waterproof cashmere on a rainy run... It all somehow makes sense in my city...

Classic: Roots Quilted Leather Baseball Jacket

RootsJacket1
RootsJacket2 RootsJacket3
We've always celebrated the classics in these parts and I love when a brand gives a staple an edge. Roots have designed and handcrafted a beauty of a jacket. Made of premium Italian leather this piece features a double zipper, welt pockets with zipper closure, as well as two interior lining pockets with eyelets for headphone wires.

Alexander Wang made an incredible one for the ladies this season and now the gents can grab one of their own. Mine comes by way of Toronto and I haven't taken it off in days. Roots ships worldwide...

Power, Corruption & Lies Or Schoolin' On Scholes

PowerCorruptionLies

I love the combination of high and low. Incredibly well made utility clothing is just as cool to me as luxurious high end fashion. As we come out of the heritage era and see the youth having a lot more fun with their uniforms, we'll witness classic staples mixed with fashion pieces like never before. The streets have literally become the runways in NYC. People will still be attached to the concept of classic but open their minds a bit more to what can be considered "classic" and spend their money accordingly.

Don't forget the youth dictate this shit. And the internet has given them more information, access, and swag than ever before. The result... No uniform is the new uniform.

Jake Davis #ScreenTests: Eddie Huang

You haven't eaten till you've had a meal with my buddy Eddie Huang. Up until now there hasn't been a chef personality that truly represented my generation. Whether you enjoy his show, book, or restaurant; Eddie gives you something of himself in all arenas. The way A$AP Rocky defines this generation in style and music, Eddie has a similar presence in food. It's in your face, eye grabbing excitement.

His style of cuisine is about entertainment... Part hip-hop, part heritage, all street. So of course I had to give you guys his Warholesque #ScreenTest eating his classic Chairman Bao™. And if you have a problem with his Star of David pinky ring you can take it up with Emile. Hahaha. Eddie's book Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir comes out drops tomorrow, January 29th. Shout to Chris Black for inspiring this one for the Tumblrs. For your daily inspiration Mr. Eddie Huang...

Crooklyn Classic Or Strangers In The Night

CrooklynClassic
We did it like that and now we do it like this. Classic doesn't necessarily mean heritage. The youth are moving forward but that doesn't mean they stop paying homage to the past. Whether it's black Tims or black hoodies these staples are more relevant than ever and feel fresher than ever. Don't forget... The youth dictates the market and everything is cyclical. Time's up on what you'd expect...

There's a return to fun and danger in vogue. And things are always fun with a little danger...

That Scent: Diptyque Sapin Doré

Diptyque_SapinDore
On a recent trip to Old Montreal I discovered the most amazing scent from Diptyque. When walking in the doors of the beautiful shop Cahier d’Exercices I couldn't help but notice the fragrance among the well curated Céline, Dries, and Balenciaga.

Diptyque has made a new limited edition frangrance for the holidays, Sapin Doré. I'm not in love with the design of the packaging or glass but the scent is incredible and takes me right back to Woodstock. In my opinion no one does it better than Diptyque and for the colder months Oriental Spruce is as good as it gets.

There's a beautiful side to SoHo you see only in the late hours of the night. SoHo after dark is kind of like a lit, empty stadium after the game. It's an incredibly interesting place to run as well as shoot an editorial. I've been really inspired by the technical women's athletic wear I'm seeing in the streets, especially the bold colors, prints, and patterns. And how it all relates to fashion.

I just try to express the things I love into visuals and hopefully you love them too. Adrianne is wearing a mix of Kapital, Supreme, Nike, A.P.C., Engineered Garments, and Carhartt. I've been called a photographer so much without ever taking a picture I thought I'd give it a shot and share it with you. Don't worry I won't be quitting my day job.

Pink Moon Or Back In Black On Bleecker

NewYorkShit
Fifty shades of black with a splash of color. Hopefully that color is as obnoxious as you can find. Black is back but it's not really like it went anywhere. I just think the city got tired of seeing all those Barbour clad lumberjacks looking like turn of the century laborers working at the RRL museum. Those kids took their uniforms too seriously and made us feel uncomfortable in our own workwear.

On to the next... Athletic wear is the new workwear. Because we don't ride motorcycles in New York. We walk and talk shit. Wake up and smell the Baies because all the flowers are dead in December.

FiveStory x Jake Davis Featuring Adrianne Ho

For those of you who haven't visited FiveStory yet, it's an incredible retail shop uptown. They carry high end goods for both men and women. On the men's side they highlight the likes of Visvim, Ten C, and Comme des Garçons. I was asked to direct a short visual "Dark Paradise" for them with Adrianne Ho exclusively featuring some great women's designers and scored by Emile Haynie.

Somewhere in between a Test Shot and campaign film, the short is a nice departure for me that hopefully keeps you wanting more. If you like what you see visit FiveStory this Thursday November 8th for a trunk show featuring designers Lois London, Jessica Robinson and Shayla Cox. Five percent of all proceeds will go to The American Red Cross to help victims of hurricane Sandy.
