Announcement: New York Made Us This Way Exhibition

 

To coincide with the one year anniversary of one of my favorite stores, Nepenthes New York, we'll be having an exhibition called "New York Made Us This Way." I'm not going to say much about the show as I want it to be a surprise.

Please join us for the opening night reception Wednesday, September 7th from 7-9pm with a secret after party to be announced. It will be a very special night. The show runs through October 20th.

One of my goals with Test Shots is to shoot every stylish man I respect in New York City. Mobolaji is no exception with his cool personal swagger, as well as his professional work. He's the contributing style editor at The Fader with an endless list of celebrity and corporate clients he works with as a stylist.

I've been sitting on this one for a while but thought with Fall right around the corner it would be a good time to release it. I've had the incredible opportunity of directing the last two seasons of campaign films for Woolrich. We flew to Tuscany, Italy to shoot this Fall Winter campaign for them. We stayed in a remote villa for a few days and traveled the countryside by Land Rover Defender. It was a fantastic time that reminded me of my childhood in Woodstock, New York. I also met so many incredible people.

For the film I tried to capture the beautiful landscape, the subtlelty of emotion, and showcase some great clothing. Big thanks to Woolrich for letting me be as eclectic as I wanted with my choices. I hope you enjoy it...

Most style savvy people I talk to have a rule about wearing shorts... Only if you're by the water... I think Justin does a perfect job wearing them. One cuff at just the right length right above the knee. In fact, Justin is doing everything right in his Test Shot from his "I Love Cops" tattoo to Persol sunglasses.

I have to credit Breakfast at Tiffany's with leaving that iconic impression on me of how beautiful a woman can look in a white dress shirt. One of my favorites this season comes from JNBY and is appropriately called the "Boyfriend Shirt." 

Now when you have someone as beautiful and elegant as Vanessa, it's quite an easy look to pull off with just a pair of leggings. Ladies please take note... This is what we likie. And of course shoes optional. For your daily inspiration, Ms. Vanessa Branch...

Somewhere there's a metaphor with denim jeans and life. I think it has to do with the way we hate to say goodbye to the things we love... Or maybe trying to make our relationships work, no matter how tattered they are, or simply finding the beauty in the imperfection that is... life. Nothing's perfect, right?

Denim Therapy is in the business of not letting go. And they do an amazing job of it. It's been a year and a half since they last repaired these A.P.C. New Standards for me. They're true artisans and have given new life to these jeans. There's nothing like an incredibly well broken in pair of jeans that came from you and the beauty of your own life...

Remember Mya in the "Best of Me" video with Jay-Z?... Yeah me too. I love seeing a woman style traditional men's athletic wear in her own way. And well Sibylla knows just how to rock it. Obviously Brendon Babenzien had men in mind when designing the vintage inspired California Running collection for K-Swiss but that doesn't mean women can't enjoy it as well.

Last week the line was introduced at Partners & Spade in New York City. If you're lucky they might still have a few pieces left. To commemorate the launch some light NYC park running from the incredibly beautiful Sibylla Deen. And remember kids... "Stay off the fucking flowers..." For your daily inspiration nothing left to say but... Sibylla Deen...

A natural beauty running on the beach a la Bo Derek in 10 was a great starting point from Ryan. When I met Mariana the vision really came together. She's truly something special. Classic clothing on a classic beauty always works.
